Frequently Asked Questions
How many guests can each tour accommodate?
We have two Pinzgauers that each hold 10 people in the back and one person riding shotgun in the front, making it a total of 22 people per tour.
Are your tours children friendly?
Yes, children 2 – 6 years old or under 60 pounds should have a booster seat that you will need to provide.
What about safety?
Our motto is “The safety of our guests is our number one priority, and their absolute enjoyment our personal challenge”. Our guides are trained in CPR and advanced first aid and they are equipped with a first aid kit. This tour is not a hard-core challenging ride, it is basically graveled out trails that people of just about all ages can enjoy. Each person has a lap belt and there are overhead hand grips attached to the roll bars CAUTION:Inquire before booking your tour if you or anyone in your party has any medical conditions that may affect his/her ability to sit on a semi- bumpy off road ride for several hours.
How do I get there?
Take the scenic Seward Highway (Highway 1) heading south. The Seward Highway follows along the Turnagain Arm with many interpretative rest stops and viewpoints. Depending on the season, it is not unusual to spot beluga whales or dall sheep from your car window. You might want to allow extra driving time so you can take advantage of the drive. Take the highway and look for signs to Girdwood, the home of Alyeska Resort. Girdwood is the biggest small town you come to after leaving Anchorage! There is only one turn into Girdwood at mile marker 90, at the Tesoro Gas Station. Our sister company, The Great Alaskan Tourist Trap is loacated within the Tesoro Minimall.
What if it rains?
Rain ensures that plants live, creeks flow, and can provide some fun muddy off-roading adventure. In regards to weather, we may cancel the tour, sometimes with very little notice, due to heavy rain and or high winds. Our tours go out rain or shine, but if conditions are unsafe we will give you a full refund. The Pinzgauers have a soft vinyl top and sides that can be adjusted up or down.
Are advance reservations required?
Reservations are highly recommended, but we will take last minute walk-ins if there is space available. You will have to check in at least one hour before at the Great Alaskan Tourist Trap.
Where do we check in for our tour?
Our sister company the Great Alaskan Tourist Trap is a fun gift shop located 45 minutes south of Anchorage at the Tesoro gas station mini-mall. We are located at the entrance to Girdwood at mile marker 90 on the New Seward Highway. Check in at the Tourist Trap and from here you will be given easy directions to the Hotel Alyeska which is just up the road.
What should we wear?
This is Alaska so overdress, you can always shed a layer if you get too warm. If the day of your tour is cloudy then bring rain gear. The weather can be unpredictable so be prepared to be warm and dry so that your trip is enjoyable.
What is the cancellation policy?
Full refunds are offered for cancellations made at least 48 hours prior to your scheduled tour. Cancellations within 48 hours of your scheduled tour will be charged 50%, and or no-shows will be charged full price.
What should we bring?
Proper outdoor footwear, long sleeve shirts in case it's buggy, bug repellent, spare warm clothes, personal medication if needed, definitely a charged up camera, and a smile!!
